Thanks to the amazing Henrietta Miller who recently shared her passion projects alternative to homework at a recent TeachMeet. I shared the idea with Oscar and Max's teacher (they're in a 5/6 composite class together) who is now implementing passion projects with her class this term.
Max's project is to create a (non-violent) animated story using Adobe Flash. He is basically doing 'homework' at every opportunity once he comes home from school, and especially on weekends! No worksheet could ever motivate a student to have that kind of commitment to their homework, and the learning he is driving himself is just phenomenal.
If you want to check out his project journey you can follow his blog (the videos are just too cute).
If you want to read more about passion projects, check out Henrietta's blog post about it.
If you want your own kids to experience this kind of homework, chat to their teacher about it. If they're a teacher who embraces learning and student engagement then they should welcome the conversation.
